Building a House

Just came back from my FIRST community project yesterday evening. Still feeling very tired and my body is aching all over from all the digging of soil etc. Nevertherless, it was a good experience and I'm glad to be part of the team.

Day 1 - 21 Feb 2008

Met up with the rest at Harbourfront before taking a ferry to Waterfront terminal. There are only left with 9 of us as 1 had missed his flight and another good with flu. Checked into Harris Resort and made our way to the site where we started to build the house. Had a good chat with Jessica & Erica while bending the wires. It's always good to have some gals around as it helped to boost our morales or perhap just mine only. Realized that the questions posted need some thinkings and also some religions thoughts were shared. Dinner was very funny as we had expected buffet style or one had mentioned full course meal perhap. It turned out that 9 of us were only served with lots of rice with ONLY a plate of fish, chicken and vegetables each to be shared. Hmm....we shall felt like a refugees man!!

Day 2 - 22 Feb 2008

Another tiring day at site where I spent the whole day digging or levelling the ground. Groans and complaints were heard as differences in working cultures starts to kick in. Of course, tiredness come in which made the moods foul as well. Luckily, there are still 2 gals around or I guess situation will be worse....haha!! Had to make a tough decision at night as to chosing what I want to do vs Going with the majority. In the end, I chose to follow the flow rather than doing what I wanted. Haiz...Guess that what life is all about? Had to make a choice where we don't always get what we want.

Day 3 - 23 Feb 2008

Body is aching all over especially my back aches from all the bending. Therefore, I chose to dig the soil instead of digging the ground. Barely 5 minutes into the digging, my back is already telling me to stop. However, as the 2 gals beside me are still digging, my pride does not allow me to stop. Had to use more skill instead of strength as I can't really bend at this point of time. I think I dig even harder than I did during my army days. This is definitely because of one reason.

Conclusion

From these 3 days, I managed to learn a bit of the different working styles plus the cultures. The team will always come with different kinds of people and it really depend on how we want to get the work done. Everyone should know their roles and perform it well which is important to do a good job. I'm glad this team is quite good. Also, western gals are also much different compared to asian gals. They are more sporty and also more into community work. I'm amazed by the enthusiasm and effort they put in. It's even better tha most of the guys especially me. Lastly, Singaporean has a mentality that if money can settle the issue, we will not hesitate to spend it. Anyway, I looked like a burnt BBQ chicken from the 3 days at Batam. Even more effectively than lazing at web's swimming pool.

Building a House

A few hours left before I will depart to Batam for my first Community Program. Will be there for the next 3 days with ard 10-11 people from my company. Hmm...let hope that it will be fun and enjoyable trip. I had never build a house before and it seem that we are not given any training yet plus not much info was given. How I'm going to do it? I got absolutely no idea at all.
Anyway, I did not manage to get my COE for the first round and I have to wait for the next bid on the 5th Mar. Let me continue to wait and see how then.
Better go to sleep now so that I will have more strength to build the house tomorrow.

Special Valentine Day

14.02.2008 - A special Valentine Day
Had one of my most memorable Valentine Day for the past 20 over years. Now that everything is sealed and confirmed, I felt more secure liao. No one know what lies ahead, however if I do not take a step ahead, I will not know what will happen eventually.
Anyway, let's not worry about what will happen tomorrow and enjoy myself to the fullest for now. I'm sure looking forward to the days ahead.

No Risk No Gain

Celebrated GQ's bdae with meryl, elaine, cs, xj, web, suzie, sijia, sophie and egwin at city hall yesterday. Dinner was at Kenny Roger followed by coffee at The Coffee Club at Millenia Walk. Happy Birthday in advance, GQ!!
Time once again to make decision. Should I or should I not? Guess there's always a lot of considerations before we make any decisions in our lives. However, thinking too much into it may have the adverse effect too. Nevertherless, making too rush a decision may not be wise either.
The timing may not be ripe, preparations not fully done yet, but guess it's time to push for a earlier committement. Sometime, lives just need a little more excitement and challenges. Otherwise, it will get boring at times. Of course, incidents and experiences also play a part in decision-making.
Let just hope for the best but also be prepared for the worst. Time to prepare for Chinese New Year liao.
